an evening suspended
in the glow
of winter’s quiet abundance;

a casual, durational feast
where the slow
unraveling of flavors
bring warmth
to the winter chill.

In this transitional time
as light has become
a rare and precious ingredient,

our table becomes the tableau,
draped with the bounty
of earth and sea.

Flavors of
persimmon, kumquat,
pomegranate, oysters, lemon,
roasted duck, and orange are

swelling & luscious.

A still life with fruit not so much locked in place

but looking to escape from it,

twisted peelings
winding their way
through the darkness
attempting to abscond
into the world
beyond the painting.
